Payton to MTC

May 28, 2008
We had a great morning today, Payton was set apart at 8 am and then we had a couple hours together as a family before we departed to the MTC. The setting apart was a great experience, one that all of us will remember. Very spiritual and emotional, and President Gibson gave Payton an amazing blessing. After the blessing both Grandparents stayed for a while and said their final goodbyes. Then Mallory, Angie and Payton played a game of Scrabble. I was a little to emotionaly charged to just sit so I did a few small things around the house. Finally we left to go to the MTC. The ride over was pretty normal but I could feel the pressure building inside me.

As we arrived at the MTC we entered a well oiled machine, they get you moving and going fast. Soon we were sitting in the chapel and heard a couple of talks from the Mission Presidency, watched part of the video Caled to Serve and then a closing prayer and the missionaries went out one door, we went out the other. The last goodbye was pretty intense, it was the first time I have seen Payton really show much emotion except excitement. It was very brief and we watched him walk proudly out the door as a Missionary. Angie, Mallory and I then went out to the car. What a relief to have that over. I feel a real wave of peace knowing that Payton is now on his journey and we can start to enjoy the mission instead of dread the seperation.

I am sure proud of Payton and his willingness and excitement to serve a mission. He will be fantastic, and he has so many family, freinds and our entire ward behid him supporting him. I love him so much as a son and freind.....I will miss him greatly, and at times I am sure my emotions will run high. THe fact that we are now on the clock and he is thrilled to be there makes it easier for me to bear.
